Saúde Psicológica e Bem-estar | Observatório Escolar 29 Executive summary Regarding teachers The results of the analysis of the variables associated with well-being and perceived life satisfaction among Portuguese teachers indicate that, in general, when analyzing the variables associated with well-being, we discovered a correlation between them. In contrast, when we analyze the sociodemographic variables, we identify a risk profile: in addition to the variables associated with well-being, being older and having more years of service (which are most likely collinear) appear as a risk for psychological distress. This profile worsens when gender is considered, revealing that the distress risk appears to be higher for older females with more years of service. When more than 80 percent of the participants in the study are female, this situation becomes even more concerning. The analysis of individual and contextual variables associated with the perception of changes in daily life due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Portuguese school teachers, by comparisons between groups, according to the perception of changes in daily life due to the COVID-19 pandemic, revealed that teachers with a greater perceived impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on their lives reported lower levels of life satisfaction and well-being, higher levels of psychological and psychopathological symptoms and a perception of less support in the various aspects of the school environment, at the management level, colleagues, and the promotion of skills programs. The discrimination between the three groups also showed that higher levels of depressive symptomatology characterized teachers with a higher perceived impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, and teachers with a lower perceived impact of the Covid-19 pandemic were characterized by higher well-being and life satisfaction.
