Saúde Psicológica e Bem-estar | Observatório Escolar 26 Executive summary There was a correlation between test anxiety and lower levels of socio-emotional skills, quality of life and perceived life satisfaction, and psychological symptoms. In the SSES, perceived quality of life and life satisfaction are positively correlated with age/education and gender. However, increasing age does not result in improved quality of life perception or life satisfaction. As life satisfaction rises, so do SSES | Socio-emotional Skills and PYD | Positive Youth Development dimensions (confidence, connectedness, and competence), whereas as life satisfaction worsens, so do the symptoms of psychological distress, anxiety, depression, stress, exam anxiety, and involvement in bullying. The findings indicate that girls and older adolescents are at a greater risk of failing to advance in a positive and healthy manner. Conversely, boys and younger adolescents (7th grade) exhibit higher levels of life satisfaction, positive development, and skills and, consequently, have lower levels of psychological distress, stress, anxiety, and depression symptoms. It can be seen that adolescents in the 8th grade exhibit higher risk results when compared to younger students, but also when compared to those in the 10th grade in some of the indicators, which highlights the need for special attention and focus on students in this school year (students who changed cycle the year the pandemic began? The customary "terrible" 8th grade?) The study of the factors that best explain the symptoms of psychological distress in adolescents reveals that stress, anxiety, and depression have the strongest association, followed by the PYD | Positive Youth Development (confidence, connection, competence), the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, and SSES | Socio-emotional Skills. Adapting the Dual Model to this population study, we examined the distribution of older students (2nd and 3rd cycles and secondary) by each of four situations defined by high or low life satisfaction and high or low occurrence of psychological symptoms of distress.
